RALEIGH, N.C. -- Spend your summer with the Meredith College Avenging Angels! Meredith coaches host a variety of sport camp options with current and alumnae athletes assisting, as well as other coaches and athletic professionals.
Head Softball Coach and the USA South's 2017 Coach of the Year Kim Scavone opens the lineup with a weeklong Softball Youth Camp beginning June 12. Scavone led her team to the East Division Regular Season Championship and a program-best 28 wins this spring and returns her starting lineup next year to make another strong run. The camp staff will provide skills training in a fun and challenging environment.
Assistant Soccer Coach Jen Grubb follows in the lineup with a Day Camp June 19. She offers a full and half day option for campers age 6-16. In her new role with the Avenging Angels last fall, Grubb coached alongside USA South Women's Soccer Coach of the Year Paul Smith to lead the Angels to the program's fourth conference title. Grubb's will use the vehicle of soccer to empower and encourage girls to be courageous, powerful, and confident leaders both on the field and off.
The Summer Laxin' Camp begins June 26 led by Head Lacrosse Coach Lauren Scott and her Assistant Coach Kate McKinley. Scott and McKinley led the Avenging Angels to the program's fourth consecutive USA South Tournament Championship this spring resulting in a fourth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. The camp staff will focus on individual improvement of stick skills, as well as game tactics and strategy. Players are divided based on age and experience, and the camp will utilize both the Meredith Avenging Angels home turf field and a grass training venue.
Meredith's Head Basketball Coach Melinda Campbell hosts her summer day camp beginning July 10. Campbell and her staff, including current and former Avenging Angels, invite rising middle school players to an intensive, individualized skills training experience. Camp is designed to help players improve their offensive and defensive skills and to understand the strategies and techniques of the game.
Head Volleyball Coach Fiona Barkley will complete her Meredith coaching career with this summer's Day and Overnight Volleyball Camps beginning July 24. After directing her team to the 2016 USA South Tournament Championship and advancing to the NCAA Tournament, Barkley will assume a new role with the Meredith athletics administration beginning in the fall. Both camps offer an encouraging training atmosphere with the perfect blend of focus and fun.
