Meredith SAAC Donates "Pennies for a Purpose" Collection to Relay for Life

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Avenging Angel Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will donate monies collected during the USA South's "Pennies for a Purpose" campaign to Meredith's Relay for Life team. The conference SAAC established this community service initiative in 2008 in an effort to raise money for local organizations during the spring semester.

Meredith SAAC members collected money for a raffle during an Avenging Angel basketball game in February and accepted donations during a softball game this spring. Last month the student-athletes partnered with nearby Tropical Smoothie to earn a portion of sales collected on March 14 at the local eatery.

The "Pennies for a Purpose" contest began after winter break and the twelve USA South institutions collected $2,176.84 with efforts through March 28.

This initiative marks the second community service program developed by the conference student-athlete organization. The "Cans Across the Conference" food drive established in 2004, takes place during the fall semester.
