Raleigh, N.C. - Meredith College will hold a special event on Wednesday, November 9 at 4 p.m. at the Meredith Athletic Field and Track Complex to announce the addition of its seventh varsity sport. The event will feature Meredith President Dr. Jo Allen, USA South Commissioner Rita Wiggs, student athletes and other campus dignitaries.
The Avenging Angels’ newest team will begin play in the 2012-13 academic year. The Board of Trustees approved the addition of the new sport at their fall 2011 meeting. Meredith will be the first college or university in Raleigh to offer this women’s varsity sport. The most recent varsity sports to be added were soccer in 1993 and cross country in 2005.
