Basketball Drops Two in Alabama

Montgomery, Ala. - The Meredith basketball team traveled to Montgomery, Ala. on Thursday and Friday to play in the Coaches Versus Cancer Classic at Huntingdon College.  The Avenging Angels (3-5) lost two heart breakers by two points as they fell to Rhodes 70-68 on Thursday and Birmingham-Southern 83-81 on Friday.

Rhodes 70, Meredith 68 - The game was tied at 68-all on a jump shot by Megan Rahn, but a shot with one second left by Rhodes' Sharwil Bell gave the win to Rhodes.  Meredith was led by Rahn with 19 points.  Keyanka Bailey had 14 points and nine rebounds.  Bryana Holmes added 10 points while Rah'nika Jones had nine rebounds.

Birmingham Southern 83, Meredith 81 - The Avenging Angels made a late come back and Holmes' three-pointer with 17 seconds cut the lead to two with 17 seconds left.  Birmingham Southern made their free throws down the stretch to take the win.  Meredith was led by Rahn with 17 points and nine rebounds.  Holmes had 18 points while Brittany Baker had 16 points.  Kristen Alford added 11 points.

Meredith returns to action on January 4 as they enter back into USA South Conference play with a game at Ferrum.  Game time is 5:30 p.m.
