Basketball Falls to Captains, 80-58
Newport News, Va. - The Meredith basketball team traveled to Christopher Newport to take on the Captains in a USA South match up. CNU took the game 80-58 as Meredith challenged the Captains at times.
Christopher Newport (8-3, 3-1 USA South) led the game wire-to-wire, but Meredith cut the lead several times as the Captains built separate large leads in both halves. Megan Rahn was dominant on the court for Meredith (3-7, 1-3) as she had a double-double in just the first half with 16 points and 15 rebounds. The Captains took an early 31-12 lead, but a three point play by Meredith cut the lead to nine at 35-26. CNU went on a 6-2 run to close the half and finished with a 41-28 lead.
The second half saw the Captains push the lead to 61-39, but Meredith put on a 17-4 run of their own to cut the lead. A three-pointer from Brittany Baker pulled the Avenging Angels to their closest at 65-56 with five minutes to go. CNU finished on a 15-2 run to close the game with a 80-58 victory.
Rahn finished with a total of 25 points and 16 rebounds. Bryana Holmes had 10 points and Kristen Alford had nine.
Meredith next travels to Greensboro to take on the Pride on Sunday. Game time is 2 p.m.
