FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Meredith College junior standout McKenzi Edwards earned USA South All-Conference second team honors as announced Wednesday from the league office. Laquetta Hairston was selected to the All-Sportsmanship team.
Edwards leads the league shooting 88 percent from the free throw line, and her 17.3 points per game ranks third among conference players heading into Thursday's opening round of the 2014 USA South Tournament.
Edwards leads the Avenging Angels with 3.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game and tallies nearly four rebounds as a perimeter player.
During her first season with Meredith last year as a sophomore, Edwards earned USAS honorable mention recognition and garnered the team's Most Valuable Player award presented at the annual awards banquet in April.
With a fifth-place regular season finish in the North division, Meredith secured a bid in the conference tournament for the first time since 2010. The Avenging Angels travel to Ferrum College Thursday to face the tournament host and North division's top-seeded Panthers. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
