Meredith's New Lacrosse Team Picked Eighth in Preseason Poll

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Meredith College women's lacrosse team, under the direction of first-year Head Coach Lauren Scott, is set to begin the program's first-ever competition series February 23. In the USA South preseason coaches' poll released Wednesday from the conference office, the Avenging Angels were picked to finish eighth in regular season standings.

The 2012 defending regular season and tournament champion, Christopher Newport University, was selected to capture this year's title with eight of nine first-place votes. The Captains claimed the league titles each of the last six seasons.

Greensboro College finished second in the balloting as The Pride received 53 points and the remaining first-place vote. Ferrum College placed third in the poll with 52 points followed by Methodist University in fourth with 40 points.

LaGrange College, Maryville College and Piedmont College will compete for the first time this spring as new full-members of the conference. All three institutions competed last year in the Great South Athletic Conference.
