Lax Loses Hard Fought Battle to Bearcats, 16-8
RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith's (3-3) women's lacrosse team lost a hard fought battle 16-8 to the visiting Bearcats of Saint Vincent College (2-0) in today's afternoon match. With a two-point halftime advantage, the Pennsylvania offense scored four more in the opening minutes of the second frame and extended that lead on a 3-0 run before the final buzzer.
SVC picked up the next two draw controls and scored on both offensive sets with assists from today's point leader Nora Posival. Michelle Mitchell scratched a Meredith clear attempt, and Posival netted another goal for the Bearcats on their way to a 4-0 run.
In the tenth minute MC's Eliza Evans earned a ground ball on a Vincent turnover and pushed the ball down field for a Burnet/Meadows score.
Burnet controlled the draw and Danielle Lee created a free position attempt during the next offensive series. Pearce scooped up the saved attempt and Meadows/Burnet capitalized on the rebound to give Meredith the lead with eight minutes remaining in the period.
A flurry of turnovers on both sides drained the clock nearly four minutes until Posival recovered a save from Meredith keeper Andie Stuber and scored. The Bearcats netted two more to take a two-point lead into the break.
The Avenging Angels scored on two occasions in the second frame but would get no closer the rest of the way.
Meadows led Meredith with three goals and two assists, adding three draw controls for the Angels. Burnet netted a trio of goals in her six attempts and posted a solo assist in the loss. Pearce and MacKenzie Smith added the final scores for Meredith, and Lee led her team with four draw controls on the day.
Posival led all with three goals and five assists for Vincent to help secure the win.
The Avenging Angels travel to Randolph College Saturday for a 3 p.m. draw to close out the spring break week. Link here to follow the game live.
