Lacrosse Eases Past Bishops, 19-3

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The Meredith College lacrosse team eased past the Battling Bishops of N.C. Wesleyan 19-3 in Wednesday's USA South action. Meredith sits in second in current conference standings.

Led by rookie Molly Miller, who scored all four of her goals in the first period, the Avenging Angels held a 12-0 lead heading into the intermission.

Katie Burnet controlled the first draw after the break, and Katie Sills completed the series with a goal from Jennifer Halvorson.

Burnet followed suit on the next draw, and Angelica Ramkellawan netted a goal from Taylor Pearce to extend Meredith's advantage to 14.

The Bishops found the net two minutes later at the hand of Molly Lewis.

The Avenging Angels would score twice more before Wesleyan scored their final two goals on the day.

Halvorson, Victoria Doyle and Catie Grant each scored a goal in the final 17 minutes of regulation to spread the offense around the Avenging Angel roster.

Miller tallied a game-high four goals, adding three assists. Burnet, Halvorson and Ramkellawan netted three goals apiece, and Danielle Lee recorded five groundballs, three draw controls and a pair of caused turnovers to help Meredith secure the win.

N.C. Wesleyan's Tikeyah Shaw led the Bishops with two goals, and Dani Rube posted four groundballs and three caused turnovers to lead the defensive efforts in the loss.

Meredith hosts Converse Saturday, March 8, in a 3 p.m. non-league contest before heading to Hilton Head, S.C., for a pair of games during spring break.
