RALEIGH, N.C. - In Saturday's non-conference women's lacrosse battle with the Division II Converse Valkries, Meredith College came out the victor with a 12-8 finish on the Avenging Angels' home turf. Katie Burnet led all with five goals in seven attempts.
Meredith allowed the Valkries to score three of the next four points before Danielle Lee and Burnet closed out the period. The Avenging Angels carried a 6-3 advantage into the break.
A Meredith penalty just before the half forced the Angels to play the first 1:99 down a player. Reisert and Halvorson teamed up for a point during the penalty to extend the hosts lead to four.
A quick goal from Converse was followed by a pair of winners from Raven Winters.
The Valkries outscored Meredith down the stretch, but the Avenging Angels held on for the win.
Meghan Brooks posted the win in-goal for Meredith with five saves in 13 attempts, and Alex Gurecki took the loss for Converse recording nine saves in 18 shots.
The Avenging Angels travel to Hilton Head, South Carolina, for a two-game non-conference series next week during spring break. Meredith returns to face league leader Piedmont College Saturday, March 15. The USA South battle is slated to begin at Noon.
