Avenging Angels Cruise to 9-0 Win Over Mary Baldwin
STAUNTON, Va. - The Avenging Angels soccer team recorded their third consecutive USA South Conference win today after cruising past Mary Baldwin 9-0. Meredith improved to 6-1 in league play and 10-4 overall. The Fighting Squirrels slipped to 4-7 on the season.
Sophomore forward Danielle Lee connected on a corner kick from Jessis Davis in the first two minutes of play to quickstart the scoring for Meredith. Seven minutes later, Lee passed the ball down field to Rachel Didier to score on a breakaway effort.
Brittany Millice crushed the ball from 20 yards out to push the Avenging Angels' lead to three in just 13 minutes of action. This marked the freshman's first goal of the season.
An unfortunate own-goal from Mary Baldwin sent Meredith into the break with a 6-0 lead on the Fighting Squirrels.
In the opening ten minutes of the second stanza, Didier earned back-to-back goals for a hat trick on the night. Lee followed up with the final score at 81:14 to help the Angels cruise past the hosts.
Mary Baldwin goal keepers Erin Dullahan and Kayla Childers split the match in-goal with each earning a pair of saves.
The Avenging Angels travel to Christopher Newport Sunday to cap off the weekend's contests. First kick is slated for 2:00 p.m. Meredith returns home for back-to-back contests at the Meredith Athletic Field next weekend versus Greensboro and Averett.
