Cooke's First Career Goal Gives Soccer 1-0 Win Over Falcons

Jessica Wallace assists Erin Cooke on game winning goal to defeat Pfeiffer

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College soccer freshman Erin Cooke scored today's lone goal to give the Angels a victory over Pfeiffer University in the Esprit DIII National Classic. The win marks Meredith's third consecutive to open the season.

Johns Hopkins, ranked 13th nationally, edged Emory 1-0 in the second match of Angels' tournament.

The Avenging Angels controlled the attack much of the contest with 13 shots compared to 7 for Pfeiffer. In addition to her second season assist, Jessica Wallace led the match with four shots on goal. Cooke tallied three. The Falcons recorded one corner kick, and the Angels posted two in the win.

Jaisa Loch notched a pair of stops in her third win on the season and 204th in her four year career. Pfeiffer's Kaley Hyatt earned the loss in goal with eight saves on the day.

Meredith will face off with Emory Sunday afternoon in day two of the Classic, and Hopkins versus Pfeiffer follows. Kick off slated for 1 p.m. Follow the broadcast and live stats here.
