Tennis Opens Conference Play With a 7-2 Win

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The Meredith tennis team opened USA South Conference play with a 7-2 road win over N.C. Wesleyan. The Avenging Angels took two of three in doubles and sealed the match with five of six in singles.
Meredith (7-3, 1-0 USA South) set the tone early in doubles as the number one pairing of Puja Patel and Caroline Hunt won 8-6 and number three Ashley Pearsall and Mollie Musgrave paired up for the 8-3 victory. In singles, Patel took the win at number one with a tough match 7-5, 2-6, 10-7. Other victories for the Avenging Angels included #2 Hunt 6-4, 1-6, 10-6, #3 Mary Lawrence Newton 6-3. 6-2, #4 Pearsall 6-0, 6-3 and #6 Musgrave 6-0, 6-1.
Meredith next hosts Mary Baldwin on Saturday for a 2 p.m. match to open home conference play.
