Tennis Falls 8-1 to Yellow Jackets

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Saturday's non-conference action versus Division III Randolph-Macon resulted in an 8-1 loss to Meredith College tennis. Rookie Alexandra Cheney picked up the lone point for the Angels with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at no. 6 singles.

Partners Emily Wilkinson and Logan King at no. 3 and Jacqueline Benton and Elizabeth Johnson at no. 1 picked up four points apiece in doubles, but the Yellow Jackets held a 3-0 lead heading into singles.

Johnson held on to her opponent for a 7-5 second set battle at no. 3 but would fall short of a third frame.

The Avenging Angels travel to Division II Chowan University Wednesday afternoon before taking spring break off of competition. Conference play opens March 14 at N.C. Wesleyan.
