Meredith Battles Back in 3-2 Loss to The Pride

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Meredith volleyball squad overcame a 2-0 deficit before eventually falling 3-2 (27-29, 27-29, 25-14, 25-22, 12-15) to USA South foe Greensboro College.

The Avenging Angels pushed the first two frames into extra points but could not complete the win. But the tides began to turn in set three when a kill from freshman Emily Hendricks sparked a 12-4 run to push her team to a 13-7 lead. Classmate Ally White subbed in for an ace to keep the momentum going for Meredith.

Set four started in similar fashion with GC ahead 7-4 early in the action. Molly Markely, Cori Spade, and Kara Baughman joined Hendricks on the frontline to hold on 25-22 and force a deciding set.

Sarah Brandon opened the final frame with two kills assisted by Baughman before The Pride scored five unanswered points. The Avenging Angels kept it close but would not lead again in the match.

Spade led her team with 20 kills adding 14 digs for her fourth double-double this season. Hendricks added 12 kills and 15 digs, and Baughman recorded a season high 48 assists in the loss.

Greensboro's Liz Widenhouse led all with 25 kills in .250 hitting with GC libero grabbing 23 digs in the win.

Meredith travels to Chrispher Newport for a USA South tri-match with Ferrum. The Avenging Angels play at 2 and 4 pm. Keep up with the Avenging Angels via live stats versus the Captains in the nightcap.
