  • Long Nominated for NCAA Woman of the Year
    July 13, 2017
    Four-year Meredith College volleyball standout Karlie Long, '17, was 1-of-544 athletes, and 1-of-198 in Division III, nominated for the prestigious 2017 NCAA Woman of the Year award. For 27 years, the NCAA Woman of the Year program has honored the academic achievements, athletics excellence, community service, and leadership of outstanding female college athletes.
  • Hendricks, '16, Joins Volleyball Coaching Staff
    June 20, 2017
    Meredith College alumna-athlete Emily Hendricks, '16, will join the volleyball staff this fall as the program's new assistant coach. She will work with newly appointed Interim Head Coach Kenzie Aries to lead the 2016 USA South Tournament Champion Avenging Angels.
  • USA South All-Academic Honorees Announced

    A record 76 individuals representing 61 percent of Meredith College student-athletes were named to the 2017 USA South All-Academic team as announced Monday from the conference office. The field of honorees represent each of Meredith's eight varsity sports of basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

  • Meredith Athletes Recognized During Annual Awards Ceremony

    Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers and her staff recognized the outstanding achievements of the Avenging Angels during Tuesday evening's Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony. This year's new event format included a ceremony held in the college's Jones Auditorium with a dessert reception following in the newly renovated Johnson Hall Rotunda.
  • Barkley to Take on New Role with Meredith Athletics

    Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers is pleased to announce Fiona Barkley's new role as the department's assistant athletic director for advancement and external relations beginning August 1, 2017. Thanks to the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant, Barkley will resign as head volleyball coach to take on a new challenge within Meredith athletics.
  • Golf Classic Rescheduled for May 8

    Due to the rainy weather forecasted for today and tomorrow, the 19th Annual Meredith College Golf Classic at Brier Creek Country Club has been postponed until Monday, May 8, 2017. The Meredith athletics department will host the full event complete with 18 holes of golf, silent auction, raffles, and dinner, beginning with check-in at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 8.

  • USA South Conference Presidents Cup Standings

    Meredith College finished the year ranked second in final USA South Women's Presidents Cup standings, just one and one-half points behind the leader. Regular season championships in soccer, lacrosse, and softball, along with tournament titles in volleyball and lacrosse elevated the Avenging Angels point total.

For the first time the conference used NCAA grant funds to send a cohort of athletes to the annual event.

    The USA South Champion Meredith College volleyball team ended the program's most successful season-to-date with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-9, 25-21) loss to the 10th-ranked Juniata Eagles in Friday's round one action of the NCAA Division III Tournament.

    The Meredith College volleyball Angels will travel to the University of Mary Washington Friday for the NCAA Division III Regionals this weekend. The Avenging Angels swept Averett in the USA South championship match last Saturday in order to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will face off with Juniata College in the 3 p.m. match.

    The East second-seed Meredith College volleyball team collected the program's first USA South Championship Saturday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) sweep over East top-seed and host Averett University. Tournament Most Valuable Player Hannah Blaylock led the match with 39 assists, adding nine digs.

    A 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-17) sweep over the West's fourth-seeded LaGrange Panthers sends the East's second-seeded Meredith College volleyball team into Saturday's USA South Championship. The Avenging Angels will face the East's top-seeded Averett Cougars at 2 p.m. for the program's first chance at a conference title.
  • Corey Leads Volleyball Awards as USA South Rookie of the Year

    Outside hitter Caroline Corey led a six-member-cast of the Meredith College volleyball team in this year's USA South Conference awards as the 2016 Rookie of the Year. Under the direction of 10-year Head Coach Fiona Barkley, the Avenging Angels completed the regular season 23-2 overall and 14-1 in league play for the fewest losses in program history.

    The East Division's second-seeded Meredith College volleyball team downed the East's third-seeded William Peace Pacers 3-1 (28-26, 25-12, 25-27, 25-16) in Tuesday night's USA South quarterfinal action. Karlie Long led the Avenging Angels with 16 kills, 11 digs for her first double-double on the season.

  • Lynch Records 1000th Career Dig in 3-1 Loss to Cougars

    In a battle for the USA South East Division Regular Season title, the Meredith College Avenging Angels volleyball team lost 3-1 (22-25, 23-25, 25-19, 18-25) to the host Averett Cougars Saturday. The loss ended a 14-game winning streak for the Angels, who finished second behind the undefeated Cougars in the regular season.
  • Volleyball Keeps Streak Alive on Senior Night with Sweep Over Bishops

    With a perfect USA South record on the line and five seniors playing their final regular season match in Weatherspoon Gym, the Meredith College volleyball team downed the visiting N.C. Wesleyan Bishops in straight sets (25-18, 25-18, 25-19) Tuesday evening. MCVB has dropped just one set in conference play this season.
