LAGRANGE, Ga. -- The Meredith College volleyball team capped off a road series with a conference doubleheader sweep at LaGrange. The Angels opened with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-18) victory over the Piedmont Lions and finished the day with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-22, 25-22) win versus the host Panthers. Hannah Blaylock notched a match-high 32 assists in both matches.
Caroline Corey led the attack from the outside with a combined 33 kills on the day and just one error versus Piedmont. Haley Reeg put her stamp on the middle with 11 kills in 24 attempts and four blocks. Her counterpart Alex Hafliger 11 kills, seven blocks, and Elizabeth Pattison recorded 13 kills from the right side.
Defensively, Keegan Lynch led the Angels with 24 digs, and Emery McGee stepped in for a combined 19 on the day. McGee helped finish off the Lions with five service aces, and Blaylock added eight digs.
The Avenging Angels moved into a tie for first in the East Division with Averett, but the two teams will not meet until the final regular season match of the season in Danville. Next weekend, MCVB hosts back-to-back quads beginning with Covenant and USA South newcomer Wesleyan of Macon, Ga. Friday, followed by Maryville and Salem College, also new to the league this year, Saturday. Maryville and Covenant sit in a tie for first in the West, each with one loss to Averett.
