  • Barkley to Return to Volleyball Court
    December 11, 2017
    After one season away from the sport and a short stint in a new athletics administration role, longtime Meredith College staffer Fiona Barkley will return to the volleyball court to serve as head coach of the Avenging Angels. Barkley served 10 years as Meredith's head coach, advancing the program to a USA South Tournament Championship and NCAA appearance in 2016, and Athletic Director Jackie Myers is pleased to announce her return to the position.

  • Meredith College Student-Athletes Donate Food to Raleigh Rescue Mission
    November 17, 2017
    Efforts from the Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) will provide the Raleigh Rescue Mission with more than 1500 items of non-perishable food this holiday season. The Avenging Angels collected the items as part of the USA South SAAC's service initiative Cans Across the Conference, a competition among member schools to effect change in communities across the league's six-state footprint.
  • Four Volleyball Avenging Angels Honored by USA South

    Three Meredith College volleyball Avenging Angels were recognized Thursday as a USA South All-Conference selection. Outside hitter Caroline Corey received top honors as a member of the USA South first team. Additionally, Corey was named to the All-East first team.
  • Tournament Run Ends Early for Volleyball Angels

    The Meredith College volleyball team's tournament run ended early with a 3-0 loss to the William Peace Pacers in Wednesday's USA South quarterfinals. East #3 Meredith kicked off Wednesday night with a 3-1 (25-13, 23-25, 26-24, 25-11) victory over East #6 Greensboro in round one to advance.
  • Volleyball to Open USA South Tournament in Raleigh

    The Meredith College volleyball team earned the East #3 seed in the upcoming 2017 USA South Tournament with a final conference record of 12-4. First round action begins Tuesday, Oct. 31, and the Avenging Angels will enjoy a short trip across town to face off with East #6 Greensboro at 5 p.m. on the campus of William Peace.
  • MCVB Wins Two on Senior Day; Enters Tournament as East #3

    The Meredith College volleyball team capped off the 2017 regular season with a pair of USA South wins Saturday on Senior Day. MCVB opened with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-16) victory over Ferrum and finished off the Methodist Monarchs in five 3-2 (25-13, 18-25, 27-29, 25-21, 15-10) to secure a third seed in the East Division playoffs set to begin on Halloween.
  • Tough 3-1 Loss to Pacers Drops Volleyball to Third in East

    Wednesday night's cross town rival pairing with the Meredith College volleyball team at William Peace fell short for the Avenging Angels. After claiming the first set, MCVB lost the next three for a 3-1 (25-21, 14-25, 17-25, 8-25) loss to the Pacers.
  • Volleyball's Disappointing 3-2 Loss to Cougars Leads to 3-1 Loss to Salem

    The Meredith College volleyball team allowed Averett to slip back into Friday's USA South contest for a 3-2 (20-25, 25-15, 25-21, 22-25, 14-16) victory over the Angels. Salem capitalized on Meredith's loss and finished off the Angels 3-1 (17-25, 25-27, 25-23, 22-25) to close out the tri-match.
  • Volleyball Finishes Off Bishops in Four

    The Meredith College volleyball team finished off the visiting N.C. Wesleyan Bishops in four sets with scores of 25-16, 25-13, 15-25, 25-17. Caroline Corey and Hannah Blaylock led the Avenging Angels with a match-high 13 kills and 40 assists, respectively.
  • Volleyball Posts Two Wins at USA South Play Day

    The Meredith College volleyball Avenging Angels traveled back to Pfeiffer Saturday for a pair of USA South Conference sweeps. In a 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-21) win over Greensboro, Alex Hafliger posted a .909 hitting percentage with 10 kills in 11 attempts, and Lauren Grodi notched 29 assists, 10 service aces in a 3-0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-5) victory over Mary Baldwin.
  • Phillips Serves 20 Consecutive in 3-0 Victory Over Pfeiffer

    The Meredith College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-3) sweep over the host Pfeiffer Falcons in Wednesday night's non-conference match. Rookie Lauren Phillips served for 20 consecutive points in set three to finish off PU for the win.
  • A Tribute to Doc Huber

    Meredith College athletics mourns the loss of longtime softball coach, Dr. Jack "Doc" Huber. A beloved psychology professor, he retired in 2011 after more than 30 years of service to Meredith College. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6:30 p.m. in Jones Chapel.
  • Volleyball's Corey Named League Player of the Week

    Sophomore outside hitter Caroline Corey was named this week's USA South Women's Volleyball Player of the Week as announced Monday from the conference office. Corey led the Meredith College Angels to a 3-0 record last week, all versus league competition.
  • Volleyball Slips Past Monarchs 3-2 and Downs Ferrum 3-1 in League Play Day

    Meredith College volleyball earned a pair of USA South wins in Saturday's play day at Ferrum College. In a five-set thriller MCVB claimed a 3-2 (15-25, 20-25, 25-21, 25-13, 15-12) victory over Methodist and capped off the day with a 3-1 (25-14, 13-25, 25-17, 25-16) win over the host Ferrum Panthers to remain in second in the USA South East Division. Caroline Corey and Haley Reeg led the MCVB offense with Hannah Blaylock directing the team.
  • Cross-Town Volleyball Rival Strong in 3-2 Meredith Victory

    Wednesday's USA South Conference battle between cross-town rivals William Peace and Meredith College ended in a 3-2 win for the Avenging Angels and required the skill and presence of every member of both teams. Caroline Corey led the Angels with 27 kills, and three MCVB defenders, Lauren Phillips, Katie Keen, and Corey, posted double-digit performances to fend off the WPU attack.
  • Volleyball Splits with Win Over Salem and Loss to Cougars

    The Meredith College volleyball Angels split in Saturday's USA South action. MCVB dropped a 3-1 (25-17, 18-25, 13-25, 21-25) loss to Averett in the day's opener, and finished off the Salem Spirits 3-0 (25-14, 25-19, 25-22). Caroline Corey led the Avenging Angels with 21 kills on the day, and Elisabeth Smith posted 15.
  • Corey Lands 16 to Lead Angels to 3-0 Sweep at N.C. Wesleyan
    September 26, 2017
    The Meredith College volleyball team collected their third USA South win early this season with a 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-12) sweep over N.C. Wesleyan. Caroline Corey dominated the Angels offense hitting .333 on the night with 16 kills in 36 attempts.
  • Volleyball Wins Two to Open USA South Schedule

    In the season's first USA South Volleyball Play Day, the Meredith College Angels eased past Mary Baldwin 3-0 (25-8, 25-6, 25-6) and held on for a 3-2 (25-20, 25-18, 23-25, 16-25, 15-11) victory over the Greensboro Pride to close out the day.
  • Volleyball Handles Pfeiffer 3-0
    September 20, 2017
    The Meredith College volleyball squad handled the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-12) sweep in front of a hometown crowd Wednesday evening. Hannah Blaylock led the Angels with 18 assists and five kills with three service aces.
  • Knights Hand Volleyball a Tough 3-0 Loss in Home Opener

    The visiting St. Andrews Knights handed Meredith College volleyball a 3-0 (25-11, 25-23, 25-18) loss in the home opener Tuesday evening. Hannah Blaylock distributed a match high 25 assists and four service aces.
  • Corey Named to All-Tournament Team; MCVB Records Two More Losses
    September 09, 2017
    The Meredith College volleyball squad recorded two more losses in day two of the Washington & Lee Invite. Nationally ranked Eastern University shut down MCVB's offense for a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-18), and the host Generals kept the Angels down with a second three-set finish (25-21, 25-11, 25-7). Caroline Corey was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance throughout the weekend.
  • MCVB Players Embrace Aries as New Head Coach

    Three-year Meredith assistant volleyball coach MacKenzie Aries was promoted this summer to interim head coach, and her players embraced the change. The reigning USA South Tournament champions, MCVB was picked in the preseason poll to finish second in the league's East Division. But Aries and her team set their sights much higher with a goal to advance deeper into the NCAA tournament later this fall.
  • Volleyball Opens at Generals Invite with Pair Five-Set of Losses

    The Meredith College volleyball team dropped both matches in five sets Friday evening in day-one of Washington & Lee's invitational. Maryville shut down a two-set Angels lead to claim a 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 17-25, 19-25, 11-15) victory, and Southern Virginia outlasted MCVB for a 3-2 (25-22, 18-25, 18-25, 25-22, 8-15) win. Caroline Corey led Meredith's offense with 28 kills on the night, and Katie Keen posted 50 digs.
  • Hafliger Leads Volleyball in Split

    Alex Hafliger led the Meredith College volleyball team with 14 kills, eight blocks in a split in day two of the Captain's Classic. The Avenging Angels claimed a 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-15) victory over the Neumann Knights before host Christopher Newport finished off the day downing Meredith in three (25-19, 25-13, 25-18).
  • Volleyball Drops Two at Captains Classic

    The Meredith College volleyball Angels dropped both Friday matches at the Captains Classic to open the 2017 season. A 3-0 (25-15, 25-14, 25-23) sweep by host Christopher Newport followed a 3-2 (25-23, 25-21, 25-27, 24-26, 16-18) battle to Neumann University. The teams pair up once more in a second play day beginning at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Freeman Center.
  • New Slate of SAAC Officers Readies for the Year

    The Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) introduced a new slate of officers Wednesday. Senior lacrosse forward Carlee Joseph will lead the group as organization president. Senior volleyball setter Hannah Blaylock will serve as vice-president, and her teammate Haley Reeg, a junior middle blocker, will serve as secretary of the group.
  • Volleyball USA South's East Second Pick in Preseason Poll
    August 17, 2017
    The reigning USA South Tournament Champion Meredith College volleyball team earned the East Division's second spot in the preseason coaches poll as announced Thursday. Under new leadership of Interim Head Coach Kenzie Aries and first-year assistant Emily Hendricks, '15, the Avenging Angels received two first-place votes in the poll behind top pick Averett University with six.
  • New Leadership for Meredith SAAC

    The Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be sponsored by two new athletics staff members beginning fall 2017 in Head Softball Coach Kim Scavone and Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach Gene Meade. The two look forward to offering fresh perspective to the Avenging Angels in an effort to re-energize the NCAA-driven organization.
