LEXINGTON, Va. -- The Meredith College volleyball squad recorded two more losses in day two of the Washington & Lee Invite. Nationally ranked Eastern University shut down MCVB's offense for a 3-0 sweep (25-15, 25-13, 25-18), and the host Generals kept the Angels down with a second three-set finish (25-21, 25-11, 25-7). Caroline Corey was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance throughout the weekend.
The Eagles dominated the opening set hitting .448 on 15 kills and just two errors, but Meredith battled. Down 5-1 Hannah Blaylock dished out a trio of assists, one to Haley Reeg and a pair to Alex Hafliger, to pull to within one. Eastern rebounded with four consecutive winners, and the Angels would get no closer than four the rest of the set.
EU posted an 8-2 lead early in the second when Reeg and Blaylock put together a kill to end the run. Emily Skoglund followed with an ace, but the Eagles ended the threat and managed to pull away for a 2-0 lead.
MCVB remained in the fight during the third, as Corey notched a trio of winners to pull Meredith to within one at 9-8. But a pair of kills from Eagle Caroline Shelby along with back-to-back missteps from the Angels advanced Eastern's lead back to five. Corey stepped up again with a kill from Lauren Phillips and a service ace, but EU scored 9 of the next 10 en route to a match victory.
The Avenging Angels struggled versus Washington & Lee hitting just .013 on the match. General Ashleigh Meade dominated the field recording 10 kills and no errors as the hosts finished off Meredith.
Corey posted a team high nine kills with Cathy Delano and Reeg combining for as many. Blaylock tallied 17 assists, and Keen grabbed 11 digs.
