Phillips Serves 20 Consecutive in 3-0 Victory Over Pfeiffer

Lauren Phillips

MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Meredith College volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-3) sweep over the host Pfeiffer Falcons in Wednesday night's non-conference match. Rookie Lauren Phillips served for 20 consecutive points in set three to finish off PU for the win.

The streak will place Phillips in the NCAA Division III record book with a top-five all-time performance. Former libero Keegan Lynch, '17, reached the NCAA records last fall serving for 24 consecutive points in a 3-0 victory over Elizabeth City State.

The Avenging Angels had no trouble with the Falcons as nine players posted at least one kill, and three led the team with seven apiece. Caroline Corey, Alex Hafliger, and Haley Reeg each tallied seven kills, and Hannah Blaylock distributed 24 assists. Katie Keen led all with 11 digs, while Phillips and Corey finished with six apiece. Hafliger dominated the front line defense with six blocks, including two on her own, and Phillips launched seven winners during her record setting night at the service line.

MCVB travels back to Misenheimer this weekend for a USA South Play Day featuring matches versus Greensboro and Mary Baldwin. Check back Saturday evening for box scores and match details as no live options will be available.
