Meredith Harriers Finish Strong Dual Event Weekend with Team Effort

CARY, N.C. - The Meredith cross country team competed in Friday's Great American Cross Country Festival at the WakeMed Soccer Park as well as the Greensboro Invitational at Hagan Stone Park Saturday afternoon. The team split into two groups and finished strong at both events.

Senior harrier Morgan Youd finished first for the Avenging Angels among the quick competition at the Great American Festival. With the help of freshman teammates Maggie Robinson and Illa Jones, Meredith finished ahead of the North Carolina State Club team and Methodist University.

Caitlin Dorantich, Ashley Kate Kesler, Lourdes Camacho, and Lara Pantlin each earned points towards the Meredith team score in Cary Friday.

The Avenging Angels set up Saturday's run for the second wave on the 2012 roster. The team met the challenge without their top runners in place and won among Division III teams.

Meredith's Allie Gallagher earned top spot for her team and finished 11th in a pool of 67 runners with a time of 21:35. Megan Beebe added 19 points for MC with a 22:32 minute run.

Jessica Browning, Alex Mayes, and Callie Davis completed the 5K course next in line for the Avenging Angels all under 25 minutes to round out the top five.

Meredith placed atop the list with 109 points over Piedmont College (159) and Averett (202).

Meredith will enjoy a two-week break from competition before traveling to Newport News, Virginia, October 13. The Christopher Newport Invitational is set to begin at Noon for the women. This will be the only 6K event the Angels face prior to running the same distance in the USA South Championships.
