Brinson Leads Strong Start for Cross Country Angels at Elon Opener

Macy Brinson led Meredith in the Elon Opener.

ELON, N.C. -- The Meredith College cross country Angels kicked off the 2017 campaign at the 4,000m Elon Opener Saturday morning. Macy Brinson led the charge for Meredith with a pace of 17:39 alongside USA South foe Averett University and 10 NCAA Division I opponents. The Avenging Angels finished 11th in the field ahead of the Cougars with the host Phoenix capturing the win.

Rookie Karen Perez followed in second for Meredith with a time of 18:11. Freshman Emma Travis crossed the line in 19:30, and Megan Evans followed five seconds later.

Ana Lucia Rodriguez-Salazar and Meredith Wyatt closed out the race for the Angels in 21:10 and 22:53, respectively.

Meredith travels to Greenville, South Carolina, next weekend for the 6,000m Furman Invitational.
