RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College athletics is pleased to announce the addition of two new assistant coaches to the staff.
Jennie Altherr returns to the Meredith women's soccer program to assist Head Coach Paul Smith. The pair coached the Angels together in 2006, and Altherr has been a steady presence in the college's summer soccer camps since 2013. A NCAA Division I National Champion and Atlantic Coast Conference Champion with the Tar Heels, Altherr supplemented her college career with the premier club play of the Raleigh Spartans and Raleigh United Select Women's Amateur League.
She began her coaching career with North Carolina's Capital Area Soccer League, joining other club programs in Mississippi, Illinois, and Texas, as well as Triangle Futbol in Raleigh. In 1996 she assumed the lead role at then St. Mary's College and High School, directing both soccer programs. She moved to St. David's School for one year before entering the collegiate ranks at Mississippi State University in 2000 as assistant coach. Tenures at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, Peace College (now William Peace University), and University of Southern Mississippi returned Altherr to North Carolina permanently in 2013.
Altherr has remained in the coaching profession at a variety of college, high school, and elite club programs and will share that experience with the Avenging Angels.
Head Women's Lacrosse Coach Lauren Scott welcomes Meredith Moore to her staff as an assistant for the Avenging Angels. A four-year NCAA Division I women's lacrosse player for the University of Vermont, she brings her leadership, sport skills, and contagious passion to the Avenging Angels championship program. Moore left Vermont ranked fourth in program history in career assists and completed her career ranked in the top-10 for single-season assists in 2016 and 2017.
A longtime player and mentor of the sport of women's lacrosse, Moore began her coaching career as a camp counselor for various lacrosse camps and clinics in 2014. She moved into a co-head coach role with 802 Lacrosse in 2015, all while still competing. In September 2017 Moore joined the premiere club program of Sky Walkers Lacrosse in Maryland as a co-head coach and assisted one season with the Manchester Valley High Mavericks.
