RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College softball's Sarah Gundlach garnered the program's first USA South weekly honor this season as the Rookie Pitcher of the Week, and senior midfielder Sarah Arbes earned her third Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week selection this spring.
Gundlach earned a 3-1 record last week in four appearances including three starts. She tossed a total of 19.2 innings, allowing three runs for a 1.07 ERA on 14 hits with two walks and seven strikeouts. In three games versus USA South opposition, Gundlach was 3-0 and did not allow a run in 18 innings pitched. Her lone loss was against the NCAA Division III's top-ranked Christopher Newport Captains.
Arbes tallied 14 draw controls, eight ground balls, and six caused turnovers to go along with one goal and one assist as the Avenging Angels posted a 1-1 record last week. In a 24-1 win over USA South foe Averett, Arbes collected five draw controls, five ground balls, and five caused turnovers with two offensive points. In a 20-10 loss to Randolph-Macon, Arbes recorded nine draw controls, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.
Both teams return to action this week beginning with women's lacrosse Tuesday evening versus William Peace at home. Softball is slated to face off with Shaw University in non-conference action Wednesday afternoon, also at Meredith.
