Avenging Angels Kick Off 2019 with Integrity

Avenging Angels gather at the turf field to discuss Integrity

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College athletics program opened 2019-2020 Tuesday evening with the annual Core Value Kickoff. A special event established by Athletic Director Jackie Myers early in her tenure at Meredith, this year's agenda focused on practicing integrity.

Myers opened the evening with a welcome to student-athletes from each of the 10 varsity program's, including women's golf set to begin this fall, as well as introduction of her staff. The college welcomed two new head coaches this fall in Jen Grubb, head soccer, and Field Miller, head cross country/track & field coach. Also new to the group, Elizabeth Knight, assistant athletic trainer, and Kirstie King, assistant to Grubb. Myers bragged on her all-star staff and looks forward to what the year may bring. Perhaps Meredith will earn a return of the USA South Women's Presidents Cup, an ever present goal among the Avenging Angels with a single program win in 2015.

Beth Howard, '11, returned to campus as director of clinical outreach for Carolina House. The Durham-based organization offers treatment and education for eating disorders, and Howard spends time on campus educating students, faculty, and staff. Monday night Howard focused her attention on the bystander effect and how Meredith Angels might use honesty and courage to combat their fears to step up.

Student-Athlete Advisory Committee supervisor Head Softball Coach Kim Scavone announced plans for this year's organization, and Assistant Athletic Director Wendy Jones recognized returning 2019 USA South All-Academic honorees. Since the conference announces the academic list in June after most students return home for summer recess, the Meredith athletics department uses the Core Value event to publicly celebrate the long-list of honorees.
