CLERMONT, Fla. - In Tuesday's day-two of the Meredith College softball spring break trip, the Avenging Angels fell 11-0 to the Manhattanville Valiants before Amanda Beirne pitched a 13-0 no-hitter versus the College of St. Scholastica.
Manhattanville outhit Meredith 14-to-5 with nine RBI in today's opener. Ashley Green and Amanda White each advanced on a single in the bottom of the first, and Courtney Saunders moved the runners on an error to load the bases. But all three runners were left on base.
The Valiants found the gaps in the top of the second and took a six-run lead on six hits and an error.
Meredith's next chance to reach home came in the bottom of the sixth when Green and White each singled again, but both were left on base.
Manhattanville secured the win for good in the next frame on four hits, four runs and an error.
Rookie pitcher Taylor Lynn Moore took the loss for Meredith with four strikeouts and one base-on-balls. Alyssa Taylor posted her first win on the season for the Valiants.
Meredith capped off the day with a five-inning, no hitter from Beirne. The fourth-year pitcher faced 16 batters and allowed no hits with six strikeouts.
Seven Avenging Angels posted at least one hit, and Lorri Cole led all with four RBI in the win.
Meredith closes out the Florida trip Wednesday afternoon versus a pair of Georgia Women's colleges. The Avenging Angels open with Wesleyan at 3 p.m. followed by a 7 p.m. contest versus the Scotties of Agnes Scott.
