RALEIGH, N.C. -- In Sunday's non-conference softball doubleheader action, Meredith College senior Taylor Jackson pitched a near perfect 4-0 no-hitter to open the day. She picked up her first save of the season as she closed out the win for Myah Morse in a five-inning, 8-0 victory for the sweep.
Kelsey Mabe led off the day with a single and stole second in time for Erica Occena to move her to third on a sac-bunt. Sarah Watson ripped one to center scoring Mabe for Meredith's first run of the inning. Watson scored the Angels second run as Maria annunziata stole second late in the frame.
Occena and Watson singled in the third but were both thrown out at third base on a pair of at-bats for Brittany Bucklin and Maria Annunziata. The next two runs came in the fifth on Watson's third hit of the game, scoring Mabe, and a RBI-double from Annunziata.
Jackson faced 22 batters in her fourth complete game of the season with seven strikeouts and just one walk. The Green Terror's Fiona Johnson earned the loss.
The Angels opened strong in game two as well with a two-RBI homer from Bucklin. Occena, who advanced on a her third hit on the day, scored on the play. Eran Artigues singled in the second and rookie Suzanne Taylor moved Artigues to second on a sacrifice, but both runs were left stranded.
Meredith scored a solo run in the fourth with a RBI-single from Charley Cox. Artigues walked and scored on the play.
The Avenging Angels loaded the bases in the fifth, and Annunziata scored all three runners with a double deep into left center. The shortstop bobbled the cutoff, and Annunziata moved to third. She scored on the next play as Bryce Smith drilled one down the left field line. Smith scored the game-ending run in Taylor's at-bat.
Morse earned the win allowing two hits with a pair of walks, and Green Terror starter Paige Bleyer recorded the loss.
The Avenging Angels travel to Guilford for midweek non-conference action before returning to their home field for back-to-back doubleheaders to open league play.
