RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College softball outfielder and recent graduate Erica Occena collected College Division All-State second team honors as announced Monday from the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association. Occena led a cohort of nine senior Avenging Angels to the program's second consecutive 28-win season this spring.
Occena ranked in the top-10 among USA South players with a .412 overall batting average on 47 hits in 114 at-bats, a .485 on-base-percentage, and 18 stolen bases. She recorded just one error on the season in 61 attempts with 57 putouts from right field. She closed out her four-year Meredith career as the program's all-time leader with 54 stolen bases.
This spring Occena earned USA South All-Conference and All-East first team honors after collecting second team divisional recognition in 2017. She was also recently named to the league's All-Academic team for her fourth consecutive year.
