MARYVILLE, Tenn. - The Scots of Maryville College handed Meredith their fourth consecutive loss and second in USA South play with this afternoon's 70-45 victory. The hosts improved to 6-1 overall with two wins in league play, while Meredith dropped to 1-5.
Avenging Angel Rah'nika Jones opened the game with three quick layups, including a putback after an offensive rebound, to give Meredith their only lead on the day just two minutes into the action.
But the Scots defense forced 30 turnovers from Meredith and held the team to just 32.1% from the field to cruise to an easy home win.
Jones posted her first double-double of the season with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Kirsten Alford stepped in from the bench for 17 points, adding a pair of steals. Senior shooter Bryana Holmes added the only other significant scoring for the Avenging Angels with 11 points, and Keyanka Bailey grabbed six boards.
Maryville's Mackenzie Puckett led all with 18 points on the day. Smith scored 14 and picked up six rebounds in the win.
Meredith takes the week off for the holidays before playing a pair of non-conference games to round out 2012. The Avenging Angels travel to Randolph College December 29 before hosting Hollins on the 30th.
