RALEIGH, N.C. - Meredith College basketball sophomore Kim Hinton contributes a regular blog series this winter.
Following a restful thanksgiving break, the team pilled in the bus for another long drive up to Virginia to face Hollins University. We edged out a win against them last year when we hosted them, so we knew we would all have to play our roles and perform well to pull out the win.
Our determination to disrupt the Hollins' game plan paid off with a solid 66-53 win. Everybody contributed! We even achieved one of our team goals of shooting at least 75% from the free-throw line. We finished the game with 80.8% free-throw percentage.
We were happy to have Captain Tyler Gresham back playing with the team this game after being out with an injury. Our guards did an awesome job attacking the rim and drawing the fouls. We posts worked hard to rebound and held their leading rebounder to only five boards.
We had some really great defensive effort tonight. Everyone worked hard to keep the ball out of the paint. The guards worked hard to discourage any outside shooting while the forwards denied their posts any positions on the block.
Overall, a great win coming off the break. We got an early lead and were able to hold it throughout the remainder of the game, something we have been working to do for a long time. We gained valuable experience and hope to take our confidence into the rest of the season.
The Avenging Angels return to action in the New Year beginning at Piedmont College January 5. Follow the game at 1 p.m. via live stats provided by the Lions' sports information staff.
