GREENSBORO, N.C. - The host Greensboro College Pride cruised past Meredith 80-54 in today's USA South women's basketball action. Rookie Avenging Angel Jessi Hayes posted a near double-double with 11 points and nine rebounds.
Ranked second in the league's North division, the Greensboro squad set the tone for today's game on three-pointer from Shanita Hampton in the opening seconds of play. The Pride would go on to hit five more long jumpers on 33.3% shooting.
But the Avenging Angels would struggle to slow down Greensboro as The Pride extended their lead to 24 heading into the break.
Throughout the second period Meredith put together mini-runs, but Greensboro maintained clear control during the entire 40 minutes of play.
McKenzi Edwards joined Hayes in double figures leading the Avenging Angels with 13 points, adding three rebounds and a pair of steals. Bailey and Rah'nika Jones chipped in seven apiece, with Bailey adding four assists and five boards.
Greensboro's Syerra Troutman put together a 13-point, nine-rebound effort, and Alexis Hite recorded a dozen, including a perfect six-of-six from the free throw line.
Meredith hosts N.C. Wesleyan Wednesday evening in a Play 4Kay breast cancer awareness event. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Weatherspoon Gym.
