  • USA South All-Academic Honorees Announced
    June 12, 2017
    A record 76 individuals representing 61 percent of Meredith College student-athletes were named to the 2017 USA South All-Academic team as announced Monday from the conference office. The field of honorees represent each of Meredith's eight varsity sports of basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball.

  • Meredith Athletes Recognized During Annual Awards Ceremony

    Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers and her staff recognized the outstanding achievements of the Avenging Angels during Tuesday evening's Annual Athletic Awards Ceremony. This year's new event format included a ceremony held in the college's Jones Auditorium with a dessert reception following in the newly renovated Johnson Hall Rotunda.
  • Barkley to Take on New Role with Meredith Athletics

    Meredith College Athletic Director Jackie Myers is pleased to announce Fiona Barkley's new role as the department's assistant athletic director for advancement and external relations beginning August 1, 2017. Thanks to the NCAA Division III Strategic Alliance Matching Grant, Barkley will resign as head volleyball coach to take on a new challenge within Meredith athletics.
  • Golf Classic Rescheduled for May 8

    Due to the rainy weather forecasted for today and tomorrow, the 19th Annual Meredith College Golf Classic at Brier Creek Country Club has been postponed until Monday, May 8, 2017. The Meredith athletics department will host the full event complete with 18 holes of golf, silent auction, raffles, and dinner, beginning with check-in at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start at 1 p.m. on Monday, May 8.

  • USA South Conference Presidents Cup Standings

    Meredith College finished the year ranked second in final USA South Women's Presidents Cup standings, just one and one-half points behind the leader. Regular season championships in soccer, lacrosse, and softball, along with tournament titles in volleyball and lacrosse elevated the Avenging Angels point total.

  • Hayes Earns All-Division First Team Honor

    Meredith College basketball's Jessi Hayes was named to the USA South All-Conference East Division's first team and Maddie Gladwell named to the All-Sportsmanship squad as announced Thursday from the league office. Hayes wrapped up her four-year career with the Avenging Angels last Sunday.

    Senior Jessi Hayes recorded 10 rebounds, three assists, and two steals as the Meredith College basketball team captured a 58-31 win over visiting Mary Baldwin to close out the season Sunday afternoon. Rookie Maddie Gladwell led the Angels with a career-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
  • Three Point Shooting Keeps Meredith Close in 61-55 Loss to Panthers

    The Meredith College basketball team made 7-of-10 three pointers in the second half to challenge the USA South's East Division leader, but the Ferrum Panthers held on for a 61-55 victory in Saturday's contest. Jessi Hayes and Chandler Hines scored 15 points apiece in the loss.

    The Meredith College basketball team dropped a 62-43 loss to the visiting Averett Cougars in USA South action Wednesday night. Chandler Hines led the Avenging Angels with 16 points.
  • Hayes Scores 28 in 60-53 Loss to Pride

    A seven-man Meredith College basketball crew put together 40 minutes of solid effort in Sunday's 60-53 USA South loss to the visiting Greensboro Pride. Jessi Hayes scored an impressive 28 points to lead the Angels, and rookie Maddie Gladwell recorded seven assists as the starting point guard in only her second start on the season.

  • Pacers Mount a Comeback to Edge Meredith Basketball 63-60

    After holding a 20-point lead over the visiting William Peace Pacers midway through the third quarter, the Meredith College basketball Angels scored just two field goals the rest of the way as the Pacers finished out a 63-60 USA South win. Both Jessi Hayes and Amy Rhoney posted double-double performances with 15 points, 10 rebounds apiece.

    The Meredith College basketball Angels recovered from a first-half deficit to finish off the visiting non-conference Mid-Atlantic Mustangs Wednesday evening. Jessi Hayes led the Avenging Angels with 18 points, and Kirstie King scored a season-high 14.

    A third quarter rally would not erase a 20-point first half deficit as the Meredith College basketball Angels dropped Tuesday night's USA South game to cross-town rival William Peace. Amy Rhoney recorded her fourth career double-double with 19 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.
  • Hatcher Represents Meredith at NCAA Convention

    Senior tennis player and Meredith College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee President Laura Anne Hatcher joined 24 other USA South student-athletes last week at the NCAA Convention in Nashville, Tenn. For the first time the conference used NCAA grant funds to send a cohort of athletes to the annual event.

    The Meredith College basketball team defeated Mary Baldwin University 62-49 Sunday afternoon in USA South action. Kirstie King and Maddie Gladwell led a second and third quarter surge by the Avenging Angels to capture the team's second victory on the season.

    The Meredith College basketball Angels dropped Sunday's league contest 52-44 over USA South foe Methodist University. Senior standout Jessi Hayes scored her 1,000th career point on a three pointer at the buzzer to close out the third quarter.

    The Meredith College basketball Angels shutout USA South rival N.C. Wesleyan in a 74-61 thriller to claim their first win on the season. Jessi Hayes with 37 and Chandler Hines with 17 recorded impressive career-high point totals to lead the Avenging Angels.

    The Meredith College Angels basketball team dropped Wednesday night's USA South Conference opener 65-54 to the host Averett Cougars. Led by a 17-point performance from Jessi Hayes, a hard fought battle kept the Avenging Angels close into the final minutes of the game.
