FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Meredith College basketball's Jessi Hayes was named to the USA South All-Conference East Division's first team and Maddie Gladwell to the All-Sportsmanship squad as announced Thursday from the league office. Hayes wrapped up her four-year career with the Avenging Angels last Sunday.
This year's All-Conference selection marks Hayes' third consecutive award and second on a first team. She was named to the All-Sportsmanship team as a sophomore and garnered All-State recognition that same season.
Hayes capped off her career as the league leader shooting 86.2 percent from the free throw line and sits in a tie for second in made free throws with 94.
During January's home game versus the Monarchs, Hayes recorded her 1000th career point and went on to score a total of 1163 on the season, the sixth-best among Meredith's record holders. Hayes reached the top-10 in most all other statistical categories, including third-best with 133 three-point goals made and second with 102 games played.
Hayes maintains a near-perfect grade point average, earning USA South All-Academic honors each of her four years. She also garnered Meredith athletics' highest academic honors during her career as a NCAA Division III student-athlete.
Gladwell played in all 24 basketball games as a rookie with four-of-five starts to close out the season. She averaged 5.3 points per game with 1.3 assists and 0.7 steals. Gladwell recorded a pair of double-digit performances on the year setting a career record in the final contest.
