SALEM, Va. -- Rookie Kimberly Schuh finished strong to lead Meredith College with 16 points in Saturday's 74-31 loss to the Lynchburg Hornets in Roanoke's Susan Dunagan Holiday Classic. Today's game was the first for the Avenging Angels since exam week in mid-December.
Meredith moved to 0-9 on the season, and the Hornets advanced to 8-2 with their fourth win over a USA South team this winter.
After scoring just 3 points in the first 20 minutes of play, Schuh contributed a combined 13 in the final two periods to give the Angels their first double-digit quarter of the game. Her seven points in the third marked the only scored during the frame.
Neither team shot well from beyond the arc, but Lynchburg managed to hit 40.8 percent of their field goal attempts with three double-digit performances. The Hornets outrebounded Meredith 55-30, including 24 on the offensive end accounting for 15 second chance points.
Brittany Preston returned to the lineup today after a four-game injury hiatus, and Madison Gladwell earned her first start of her sophomore season. Gladwell and Meghan Pleasants scored seven points apiece, each with four rebounds. Preston scored a field goal with three boards and one assist. Chandler Hines entered from the bench to score a field goal, adding four rebounds, and Trinity Packer picked up a pair of steals with four rebounds on the day.
Hornet Molly Shephard led the game with 18 points, 10 rebounds.
