STAUNTON, Va. -- Kirstie King scored 25 points with 10 rebounds in her first double-double performance of the season to lead Meredith College to a 76-68 win over Mary Baldwin. The victory marked the first for the Avenging Angels this season.
Meredith closed out the first half with a 41-27 lead and held on through a second half surge by the Fighting Squirrels to capture the win. The Avenging Angels scored 22 points from the free throw line to manage 12 three-point buckets from MBU to maintain a lead throughout the 40 minutes of play.
Kimberly Schuh posted 14 points with seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Katherine Holmes entered from the bench to score a season-high 13 points. Hitting six-of-eight from the stripe, Madison Gladwell tallied eight points, and Chandler Hines chipped in six with four rebounds and a pair of steals.
Mary Baldwin's Cheyanne Michael led the Squirrels with 21 points off the bench, and Cauy Duboise recorded a double-double with 12 points, 10 rebounds in the loss.
Next weekend the Avenging Angels host N.C. Wesleyan in the first of two USA South pairings Saturday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. During halftime of the game, Meredith Athletic Director Jackie Myers will recognize the following eight championship teams, as the College reveals a series of new banners in Weatherspoon Gymnasium.
