ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- The USA South's N.C. Wesleyan Battling Bishops handled the Meredith College basketball Angels 79-58 Sunday afternoon in conference action. Kimberly Schuh led the Avenging Angels with 19 points and nine defensive rebounds, and Meghan Pleasants notched 11 points, eight rebounds.
After trailing by as many as 15 points midway through the second period, Meredith scored the final four points of the half to pull back to within nine.
In the opening play of the third frame, Pleasants grabbed an offensive rebound and cut the lead to seven on a quick two points inside. Wesleyan responded with a three-point play, but Chandler Hines followed with a three pointer to trim the lead back to seven at 7:44.
The Avenging Angels would get that close on two more occasions during the quarter before the hosts began to pull away for good. Meredith continued to battle and drained a trio of threes down the stretch, but N.C. Wesleyan maintained control with Kechae Parker's double-digit performance on 19 points, 10 boards.
Hines and Kirstie King combined for 17 points, six rebounds, and Hines dished out three assists with two steals on the defensive end. Brittany Preston dished out three assists with a pair of steals as well, adding five points from the floor.
Meredith returns to Weatherspoon Gymnasium Wednesday evening to host the Ferrum Panthers in conference play. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
