DANVILLE, Ky. -- The Meredith College basketball team dropped a pair of games in the Centre College Classic this weekend. Kimberly Schuh led the Avenging Angels both days with a combined 30 points, as Meredith dropped a 59-48 loss to the host Colonels Friday and lost 100-40 to the Thomas More Saints Saturday afternoon.
MCBB played a competitive game versus Centre, leading by one at the half. But the Colonels shot 58 percent in the third quarter to take a seven-point lead. A three-pointer from Caroline Coleman trimmed the deficit to five and three free throws pulled the Avenging Angels to within one. But a three-minute dry spell allowed Centre to extend their advantage to 10.
Meredith continued to battle with a pair of layups from Janah Hassell and Schuh. The Angels remained in step with Centre down the stretch but would not find a way to get back in front.
Schuh notched 16 points, seven rebounds and played the entire fourth quarter with four fouls, while Coleman scored 12 with five steals and a pair of assists. Hassell finished with nine points, three assists, and three rebounds.
vs. Thomas More
The Avenging Angels were no match for the 17-player squad with fresh legs throughout the 40 minutes. Madison Temple led the game with 26 points on 11-14 from the floor. Schuh finished with 14 while missing just one from the field, but Meredith shot just 29.2 percent as a team on the day. And the Saints defense forced 21 of Meredith's 29 turnovers to give the Avenging Angels trouble throughout the game.
Coleman finished with six assists during a tough game, adding five points from the floor. Trinity Packer added nine points with seven boards, and Hassell dished out three assists with one bucket.
MCBB will enjoy a short break over Thanksgiving before heading to Christopher Newport Sunday, Nov. 25, for a 2 p.m. pairing. Follow the live action HERE.
