Schuh's 22 Points Not Enough for Wasps

Kimberly Schuh shoots from the top of the key

LYNCHBURG, Va. -- Meredith College sophomore Kimberly Schuh scored 22 points in Saturday's contest versus Emory & Henry, but the game-high performance would not keep pace with the fresh legs of the 15 Wasps who saw time in the holiday pairing. The Avenging Angels will face off with the tournament host Lynchburg Hornets Sunday at 4 p.m. to close out 2018.

Once again Meredith opened slowly and found themselves in a nine-point deficit after the first 10 minutes of play. Emory & Henry's offense slowed to a manageable pace in the second stanza, but the Avenging Angels trimmed their shortfall by just two points heading into the break.

MCBB played even with the Wasps in the third, but Emory & Henry pushed ahead in the final frame to finish off the Angels for the win.

Meredith shot a season-high 75 percent from three-point range and 80 percent from the free throw line to keep pace with the Wasps. But 22 offensive rebounds gave Emory & Henry an advantage Meredith would not be able to counter.

Madison Gladwell and Caroline Coleman contributed eight points apiece for the Angels with a combined six assists, three steals. Brittany Preston entered from the bench to drop in a pair of field goals beyond the arc, and Kirstie King led MCBB with seven rebounds, adding six points from the inside. Trinity Packer scored four with four rebounds, two blocks, one steal, and Janah Hassell dished out a pair of assists with two steals in the loss.

Wasp Taylor Blevins dropped in 11 with seven boards to lead Emory & Henry.
