LYNCHBURG, Va. -- The Meredith College Angels would not recover from a four-point first quarter start in a 69-50 loss to Lynchburg College Sunday afternoon. Kimberly Schuh was named to the Holiday Classic All-Tournament team for her efforts over the two-day event.
After a slow start offensively, recording just one bucket in 11 attempts through the first 10 minutes of play, the Avenging Angels maintained an even pace with Lynchburg the rest of the game. Caroline Coleman drained a pair of three-pointers in the second period, and Schuh hit both of her field goal attempts to lead MCBB to 60 percent shooting.
After the intermission Kirstie King stepped up with seven points on perfect shooting from the field and the stripe, and Coleman launched two more from behind the arc to keep up with the Hornets. But Lynchburg shot nearly 67 percent from the field in the final frame to squash any hope for the Avenging Angels to get back in the game.
Once again the Angels had to contend with fresh legs from a deep bench that scored 27 points. But Meredith maintained poise on defense and shot well from three-point range.
Schuh posted 13 points, three rebounds to lead MCBB. King and Coleman recorded 12 apiece, each grabbing a pair of steals, and Trinity Packer led Meredith with six rebounds, adding a pair of field goals. Madison Gladwell notched seven points, and Janah Hassell led all with three assists, dropping in two free throws.
Meredith returns to action early in the New Year, facing off with cross-town rival William Peace January 2. Tipoff is slated for 6 p.m. in the WPU Hermann Student Center.
