MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- The Meredith College basketball Angels held a six-point lead versus the host Pfeiffer Falcons during the third period. But a single-digit fourth period offensive performance left MCBB with a 56-44 loss at the end of regulation. Kimberly Schuh led with 16 points, and Trinity Packer posted 10 rebounds.
Pfeiffer closed out the first frame with a slight lead, but the Avenging Angels fought back to hold a five-point lead at the intermission thanks in part to back-to-back three-pointers from Caroline Coleman and Madison Gladwell. The Falcons regained the lead three minutes into the second half, but the advantage continued to change throughout the third quarter.
After a Meredith timeout with 2:34 left in the stanza, Schuh hit a jumper to give MCBB their largest lead of the day, and the Angels maintained a slight edge through the end of the frame.
But Meredith scored just two points through the first 6:16 of the final quarter, allowing the Falcons to move back in front by nine. The Avenging Angels knocked down just one more field goal down the stretch to give Pfeiffer an easy road to the finish.
Gladwell finished with 13, adding seven rebounds, and Coleman stretched her total to six on the day. Schuh finished with nine boards, and Kirstie King grabbed three to go along with six points.
A'Mya McClain led the Falcons with 13 points, five steals in the win.
Meredith returns to Weatherspoon next Saturday after a much needed break from competition.
