MISENHEIMER, N.C. -- Senior Carlee Joseph scored four goals with two assists to lead Meredith College lacrosse to a 17-5 victory over new-to-USA South Pfeiffer University Saturday.
Led by Cameron Ruffin's three first-half caused turnovers, the Angels shut down Pfeiffer's offense to hold a stiffling 7-0 lead at the break.
The Falcons managed to turn up their effort in the second period with 14 shots compared to just five attempts during the first 30 minutes of play. But Meredith goalie Sydney Hardee protected the goal with four stops in the half and five overall.
Alongside Pfeiffer's increased offense, Joseph led a 10-goal half scoring five with two assists from Maria Codispoti. Five more Avenging Angels notched a goal during the period, including one from Codispoti, one from Capretti, who scored twice earlier in the match, and one each from Olivia Higgs and Hanna Anderson.
Codispoti finished with two goals, three assists, and Ruffin added four ground balls to her defensive tally. Holly Hite led the game with six draw controls, while Jordyn King and Rachel Argabright notched four apiece. King added two ground balls, one goal, and one assist to round out her contribution.
Falcon Molly O'Friel earned three of Pfeiffer's four goals to go along with five ground balls, four caused turnovers, and four draw controls.
The Angels open a tough four-game non-conference series at home next Thursday with the Lynchburg Hornets. Nationally ranked Mary Washington visits Meredith's turf Sunday, March 4, and the Avenging Angels travel to Catholic, also ranked in the latest IWLCA poll, during spring break. MC Lax closes out the series with former USA South powerhouse Christopher Newport before resuming conference play mid-March.
