RALEIGH, N.C. -- With the last three USA South Regular Season titles and the last five Tournament Championships already in the books, Meredith College was tabbed as the 2019 favorite in the preseason coaches poll released Wednesday from the conference office.
Under the direction of sixth-year Head Coach and three-time USA South Coach of the Year Lauren Scott, the Avenging Angels collected 11-of-12 first place votes and 121 points in this week's poll. Coaches do not vote for their own teams. The 2018 runner-up Piedmont Lions received the remaining first place vote to sit second in the poll, and Pfeiffer and Methodist round out the top four with 90-plus points apiece.
William Peace joins the women's lacrosse schedule this year with a new program, and MC Lax will face off with the Pacers in April at nearby Athens Drive.
The 2019 USA South Women's Lacrosse Tournament will feature the top-six seeded teams. First round contests will be hosted by the third and fourth seeded teams on Tuesday, April 23. The two top seeds, as well as the winners of the first round games, will advance to Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, Georgia, for the semifinals and finals on April 26-27 as a part of the USA South Spring Sports Festival hosted by the City of LaGrange and Troup County.
Meredith kicks off their tough spring schedule in Virginia February 16-17 versus Christopher Newport and Virginia Wesleyan. March 4 opens the league campaign at Salem, followed by back-to-back home doubleheaders. Meredith wraps up that weekend with Catholic College, the first of three top-15 program's on the schedule this spring. The Angels travel to No. 4 Salisbury next and play at No. 8 Mary Washington March 23.
