CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Meredith College lacrosse team downed the Lynchburg Hornets 17-9 Thursday evening from the Joe DiMaggio Sports Complex in Florida. Julie Capretti tallied a career-high performance with eight goals, six of which came from the eight-meter line.
The Avenging Angels capped off a spring break trip that included #5 Salisbury with a trip south to face off with Lynchburg on a neutral field. Meredith held a 10-4 halftime advantage and continued to attack through the second period.
Holly Hite controlled the draw per usual with nine, while forcing six turnovers and nabbing three goals on the opposite end. Sarah Arbes collected three draw controls for the Angels, causing three turnovers with a pair of ground balls, and Natalie Purcell forced one Hornet error, along with Maya Flake and Ansley Harris. Flake also added three goals, assisting Lilia Cruz on one of her three, while Cruz found Flake in the crease in the first half. Olivia Higgs scored one unassisted and dished out a pair of assists in the win.
Joy Deitrich guarded the box for Meredith, recording her third win on the season.
The Avenging Angels return to the USA South Conference schedule Wednesday afternoon with a battle in Fayetteville versus the Methodist Monarchs.
