Angels Lacrosse Take Clear Lead of USA South with 24-0 Shutout Over Falcons

RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College lacrosse team assumed their position as the clear leader of the USA South Conference with Saturday's 24-0 shutout over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons. Heading into today's match, the teams sat even in league standings with five conference wins apiece.

Holly Hite and Lilia Cruz led the Avenging Angels with seven points apiece. Hite led all with seven goals and 15 draw controls, and Cruz combined five goals with a pair of assists. Both players finished with three ground balls and combined for three caused turnovers.

Julie Capretti and Olivia Higgs recorded six points apiece with a pair of goals, dishing out four assists. Higgs forced three turnovers and Capretti one. Rookies Olivia Blake and Maya Flake posted four goals and four assists, respectively. Other offensive contributors include Henley Peatross with two points, while Natalie Purcell, Sarah Arbes, and Julia Doyle netted one apiece in the win. Arbes also forced two turnovers, battled for four draw controls, and grabbed a pair of ground balls.

Joy Detrich started in goal for the Angels, recording two saves in her win, and Haley Whitfield entered at the break with three stops on the day. Falcon Sam Hanlon earned the loss for Pfeiffer.

MC Lax loaded the bus after today's match to head to Maryland for another battle versus a nationally ranked team in St. Mary's of Maryland. The Seahawks hold at 25th in the latest IWLCA Coaches Poll.
