BREVARD, N.C. -- The Meredith College lacrosse team finished off the USA South's Brevard Tornados 24-2 in Saturday morning's contest. Holly Hite's 15 draw controls and eight points from Julie Capretti led the match.
Meredith jumped out to a 7-0 advantage with seven Angels scoring one goal apiece in the balanced effort and three Capretti assists. Brevard's Hunter Denney secured the first draw for the Tornados on the next play, and Micaiah Vacchiano put BC on the scoreboard.
The Avenging Angels slipped five more shots past Brevard's goalie Katherine Collins during the next five minutes of play. On the next draw Micaiah Vacchiano controlled the play, but Sarah Arbes forced a Tornado turnover to return the ball to the Angels. Capretti's next attempt flew wide, and Brevard carried the ball back towards their' offensive third. But Maya Flake interrupted the clear attempt to give Olivia Blake her second goal on the day. Five more goals sent the Avenging Angels into halftime with an 18-1 lead.
Hite and Olivia Higgs scored two to open the second period before Denney found Hannah Scharf in the crease for Brevard. Head Coach Lauren Scott pulled back her attack to finish out the win with just four more points.
