Capretti's 200th Career Goal in 26-1 Senior Day Win Over Pride

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Meredith College lacrosse capped off the 2019 USA South regular season with a 26-1 victory Saturday afternoon over the visiting Greensboro Pride. Julie Capretti netted her 200th career goal in the Senior Day victory as she and five other Avenging Angels were recognized prior to the match.

Seniors Capretti, Sarah Arbes, Julia Doyle, Holly Hite, and Madison Watkins, along with third-year attack Olivia Higgs, were recognized prior to the first draw. Higgs will graduate next month a year early, and Doyle must wait until 2020 to officially finish her five-year, dual-degree with N.C. State University in 2020.

MC Lax collected their fourth USA South Regular Season Championship with an 11-0 conference record and will enter the league tournament as the top-seeded favorite next weekend in LaGrange, Ga.

Meredith had no issues downing the visiting Pride in today's final home match of the season. Ten Angels scored in the match, including Capretti's career highlight notched in the 22nd minute of the match. Lilia Cruz led the Avenging Angels with six goals, one assist, and Holly Hite tallied six points on four goals, two assists. She collected a match-high 18 draw controls, caused two turnovers, and picked up one ground ball.

Capretti and Olivia Higgs recorded four goals apiece with two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls for Higgs. Arbes finished with eight draw controls, two points, two ground balls, and forced a pair of Pride turnovers. Rookie Olivia Blake posted five points with three goals, two assists, to go along with three caused turnovers and as many ground balls, and her counterpart Maya Flake dished out three assists in the win. Julia Doyle tallied three points, and Henley Peatross finished with two.

Defenders Watkins and Natalie Purcell scored one goal apiece late in the second half, and Brittany Wartman assisted Purcell during their time on the offensive end of the field.

Both Angel goalies shared the box with Haley Whitfield earning the win as the starter. Sada Hollowell earned the loss for Greensboro with five stops on the day.

The Avenging Angels must wait for Tuesday's round one of USA South Tournament action to find out their next opponent slated for Friday, April 26, in LaGrange, Georgia.
