Julie Capretti flies one past the MU goalie

LAGRANGE, Ga. -- With a 27-3 victory over fifth-seed Methodist, the Meredith College Avenging Angels head to the program's sixth consecutive USA South Women's Lacrosse Championship match slated for Saturday, April 27, at Callaway Stadium in LaGrange, Georgia. Meredith will face off with second-seed Averett University beginning at 1 p.m.

Julie Capretti led the match with seven goals for nine total points, and Lilia Cruz recorded as many points on five goals, four assists. Holly Hite maintained her control of center field with a dozen draw controls, adding four points, and Olivia Higgs posted six points, scoring four.

The MC Lax defense forced nine Monarch turnovers, including two from Sarah Arbes to go along with her seven draw controls, three ground balls. Seven other Angels forced a turnover apiece with four more netting at least one goal towards Meredith's win.

Haley Whitfield earned the win with her 12th start this season in goal for the Avenging Angels. She recorded two saves and allowed the solo first half goal for Methodist. Joy Deitrich entered at the break to notch two saves in the win, and MU's Mary Ellen Kelliher recorded the loss with six stops.

Meredith will look to fend off a hungry Cougars squad looking for AU's first title in tomorrow's Championship event. The winner earns the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
