RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer squad claimed a 2-1 victory over the visiting Pfeiffer Falcons on Senior Night Wednesday. Head Coach Paul Smith, Athletic Director Jackie Myers, and the rest of the Avenging Angels celebrated Olivia DeBellis, Samantha Litt, Jaisa Loch, and Cassie Padilla during the intermission.
After a scoreless first half Jessica Wallace drove a ball to the center of the box late in the 51st minute that slipped through the keeper's hands. Meredith's second goal came 10 minutes later as Wallace slipped the ball past the Falcon's goalie once again.
Late in the match, Pfeiffer's Maddie Capel floated a corner kick to Kat Kelly for a header goal to close out the scoring for the night.
Jaisa Loch recorded a pair of saves in her 11th season win, and Kaley Hyatt notched eight saves in the loss.
With USA South Tournament seeding on the line, the Avenging Angels' final regular season match will be critical. Meredith travels to Methodist Saturday for a 6:30 p.m. contest. The Angels hold a one game lead over the Monarchs, who are tied for third with Greensboro. The Pride must get through Averett. Tournament seeding and early round schedules will be available over the weekend once all conference matches complete. Check back for the latest information.
