RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Meredith College soccer Angels finished in a 1-1 draw with visiting Stockton University in day-two of the annual Soccer Classic. Jessica Wallace scored for the Angels in the 36th minute of the match.
Guilford edged N.C. Wesleyan 1-0 in the second match of the day.
The Ospreys attack kept Meredith's defense busy throughout the match, and Kat Pike protected her goal with help from Kirstie King and the rest of the backline. Wallace worked her way around SU keeper Nicole Pallante to finish off a breakaway for the Avenging Angels, and Meredith held onto that lead through the break.
Stockton continued to control the offense early in the second frame and Michelle Sander found the corner of the box in the 71st minute to tie the match.
The intensity ramped up for both teams as the clock ended regulation. The Avenging Angels continued to battle against a tenacious Stockton offense and managed to keep the ball clear of the net through two overtime periods for the tie.
Meredith is slated for a midweek road match Wednesday at Roanoke and will host former USA South foe Ferrum College next Saturday afternoon.
