RALEIGH, N.C. -- Jessica Wallace scored both goals in Tuesday night's 2-1 win between Meredith College and the visiting Emory & Henry Wasps. Her second goal came in the second minute of a sudden victory overtime period to finish off the match.
The Avenging Angels appeared to have the match wrapped up in regulation until Callie McMurray scored unassisted for the Wasps in the 88th minute to send the match into extra minutes.
But Meredith wasted no time as Katie Quinn fed Wallace just past the midfield. Wallace outpaced her opponent and found an opening in the far right corner for the quick OT. Her first point came late in the first half as she dribbled her way to the box for an unassisted score.
Meredith controlled the offense much of the night with 28 shots to just 10 for Emory & Henry. Both teams had their chance from the corner with five for Meredith and three for the Wasps.
Molly Thomas directed the Avenging Angels defense with help from Kirstie King, Celvy Kofsky, and rookie Annah Bishop on the wing. Sarah Halsey, Lillian Fox, and Quinn had three attempts at the net, and Hannah Elvington tallied four shots with three on goal.
Freshman goalie Miranda Lutz protected the Meredith box with four saves in her first collegiate start, and Kieran Liseski earned the win for the Wasps sharing time with Kaela Schlevensky.
Meredith remains at home for one more match this week before kicking off a four-game road series Sunday at Mary Washington. The Angels kickoff at 6 p.m. Friday night versus Pfeiffer.
